Hello! I’m Haruka.

In Japan, when autumn comes, people often hear phrases like “the autumn of appetite” and “the autumn of reading.” Today, let’s look at these two kinds of “autumn.”

① The Autumn of Appetite (食欲の秋)

Autumn is a season full of delicious food. Rice, fruit, and fish all become especially tasty around this time, which is why it’s called “the autumn of appetite.” Many foods can only be enjoyed in fall, so a lot of people look forward to autumn’s flavors.

② The Autumn of Reading (読書の秋)

Autumn is neither too hot nor too cold, making it the perfect season for quietly reading a book. The phrase “the autumn of reading” is said to come from an old Chinese poet, who wrote that autumn nights are good for reading. Spending cool evenings curled up with a book is one of the classic ways to enjoy fall in Japan.

③ Other Kinds of “Autumn of ○○”

Besides these, there are other versions too, like “the autumn of fall foliage,” “the autumn of sports,” and “the autumn of art.”

Which “autumn” do you like best?🍁

Have a lovely day, see you soon!✨
